  • The story or insights your visualizations tell.
  • This dataset has 2 areas of near 0 growth from 0-.75 and from 3-3.8. This is reflected in both the differences between the bars, plus the circle the differences between wedges expands at a similar rate.

  • A quick reflection: What are the strengths and limitations of Part-to-Whole as a design framework?
  • Part to whole doesn't arrange itself well when just comparing time data. Without inspecting the key carefully it can be hard to tell just what % of the pie each time is.

       The dataset I chose was found here https://catalog.data.gov/dataset/electric-vehicle-population-data and was chosen due to its popularity, and its similarity to several assignments this year.      I was attempting to solve a few questions I had about electric cars. I wanted to know what automaker was making the highest number of electric vehicles, if the range the vehicles can operate in has increased, and where electric vehicles were most being used. The related works to this that inspired my choice happened to be all the mtcars plots I did this year. We focused on MPG several times and I wanted to visualize how electric cars have improved in that department as well. My technological approach was to chart out the different ranges of electric vehicles and how that number has changed over time.   What kind of chart did you create? I created a boxplot using. Each section has the range of mpg per cylinder on the chart and has the median as a line so you can visually identify the range median and deviation. Did your visualization reveal any  differences between groups or variables ? The number of cylinders in the engine dramatically impacts the mpg of the vehicle Did it reveal any  deviations from an expected value  or benchmark? There was a large deviation in 4 cylinder engines with some nearly performing nearly as well as 6 cylinder engines on mpg.  How well does your chart align (or not align) with the principles discussed by  Few (Chapter 9)  and  Yau (Chapter 7) ? The graphs are simple and convey the information in a clear and informative way that people can quickly understand what it is trying to say.  What challenges did you face in interpreting the visual output?
